Music Is A Savage Beast

Woohoo day 6 of the #AKwritingChallenge! The topic/question today is “What song pumps you up?”

This is one of those topics that may need categories. Most people listen to different music for different activities and I am no different. My musical tastes are all over the map so this should be fun.

Driving: When I want to be in a road rage kind of mood, I’ll put in Korn’s Freak on a Leash. If that doesn’t quite do it for me I will play any one of the ICP CD’s I have. Because yes, I still use CD’s sometimes. Not often, mind you, but sometimes.

For those who don’t know who/what ICP is, they are the Insane Clown Posse – a very interesting group from Detroit. I’ve seen them in concert at least once, oddly enough when they were playing with Korn and Staind. I will also listen to Staind but not nearly as often anymore. The singer went a little whiny for me.

If it’s not road rage and just a road trip, I’ll put on one of my road trip mixed CD’s. These have everything on them from Tori Amos to Metallica. One can’t just listen to one kind of music. One has to mix and match the heavy and the light to really get the road trip vibe going.

I also enjoy my Henry Rollins spoken word shows on long trips. They’re funny and they make me think.

Cleaning: Big fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers for this one. The music of my youth also gets me going – Technotronic, Salt n Peppa, Beastie Boys (License to Ill and the other early stuff. BRASS MONKEY! THAT FUNKY MONKEY!), and on and on.

Work-outs: Dave Matthews Band and the Cleaning mixes work for this also. Unless it’s physical therapy. Then I have to play the stuff that makes me mad so I can get through it and we’re right back to Korn and ICP.
