Welcome to day 28 of the #30daywritingchallenge. Can you believe it? It’s the home stretch, friends! Stay tuned after day 30 when we switch to #akwritingchallenge! It’s going to be more fun than a barrel of kittens with yarn.
It’s odd how people who don’t follow sports will still understand the home stretch sports metaphor. Why? Because it’s used, sometimes over-used. Which brings us to today’s topic. The word/phrase I use constantly.
I took one of those semi-goofy quizzes on FaceBook about a month ago. It consisted of testing my vocabulary to determine how many words I know. Yes, it’s all estimated and not accurate, blah blah blah. At the same time they’re fun, and estimates are allowed in most things, so there.
My score came out a hair under 30k. Not bad, right? I saw someone’s come out at 12k and they write books I happen to like.
With an estimated vocabulary of 30,000 words, one would think that I would have a word for everything. And I do.
Yep, I use awesome for everything. Sometimes I even change it to awesomeness or awesome sauce (ugh, commercials).
Written word, however, I use “so” a LOT. It’s my space filler. And I don’t care.
What word or phrase do you use constantly? Does it drive your friends mad? Are they too polite to tell you? Inquiring minds want to know.
